Heaven knows that there sure are are a heck of a lot of skin care products out there that promise to do everything. They fight acne, clean skin, exfoliate, brighten and moisturize. All in one container!

However; as the old saying goes, it's better to do one thing “right” than to do several things only halfway! So it sure is nice to finally see a product like this. A basic 2.5% benzoil peroxide acne treatment.

Of course everyone by now knows that benzoil peroxide can dry your skin out. That's what they make moisturizers for. Also the fact is that the toner in three stage benzoil peroxide kits can easily be replaced by witch-hazel.

Another thing I like about Neutrogena on the Spot Acne Treatment, is its price. In an age when so many acne treatment product manufacturers are seeing how high they can go with their prices, this stuff sells for only around $20 or so.

Now understand that the more delicate your skin is, the more apt you are to experience some type of itching and drying from benzoil peroxide. Also don't kid yourself. Even at a 2.5% concentration, this stuff can cause you problems in that regard.

I do believe that Neutrogena on the Spot Acne Treatment is being a bit over hyped in their promotional material though. Hey! It's no new discovery! In fact benzoil peroxide has been around and getting used for decades.

All the same though, it's cheap to try, which is a lot more than I can say about so many other products out there and benzoil peroxide is clinically proven to kill acne causing bacteria. So what have you got to lose but your zits?!

I am in my mid 40's, so my acne is a spot here and there. I've tried other products, but Neutrogena's On-the-Spot Acne Treatment, Vanishing Formula, has worked the best for me. It didn't dry out my skin and since it was a vanishing cream, no one knew I was using an acne product. I would recommend this product, since it worked for me!

This is the most gentle brand available. It contains 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide. All other brands are extra strength and have 10%, which eats away at my face and burns. This takes a few applications to fully rid my face of break outs, but it is worth the wait to avoid any burning or injury. I have really sensitive skin and roseacea. My dermatologist recommended this for me. I am glad that I took his advice. :)

Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash: Deal or No Deal?

Now I have always been a big fan of Proactiv. They were the first to come out with a multi-stage acne treatment system that finally addressed the side effects of benzoil peroxide.

A system that was and still is so popular that it seems that just about every other manufacturer of acne treatment products now has one or is soon to come out with one. So then, what about Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash??

I'm sorry to say that I'm no where near as enthusiastic about this product as I was and still am about their multi-stage treatment kit and I'm not afraid to say way. In fact I have a few problems with it and they are as follows:

To start off with, grit in face scrubs is a gimmick. Not only does it not help but it can also damage delicate acne prone skin. You see the problem is “below the surface” and grit in any face scrub does nothing for that.

Secondly Proactiv Deep Cleansing Wash contains 2% salicylic acid. An exfoliant. To start out with 2% is way too much and you really shouldn't be exfoliating your face “every time” you wash it.

Remember that skin is a good thing. Now I know you may be angry with it right now but removing it's top layer every time you wash it is definitely not the solution. Why not consider buying an exfoliant and using it once or twice a week instead?

My final gripe is the price. Let's not forget that in the end, this is face soap were talking about here so how did we end up at close to $50 for a 16 oz pump container? In the end though, it's your opinion that really matters and in fact you don't have to look to far online to find plenty of reviews from satisfied users.

Just to clear things up, this is the REAL DEAL, it is not a fake product as per one of the other reviews. You can go on [...] right now and see this wash being sold there for more money than here (2 8 oz. bottles) - I used to buy it from them, but will happily buy it here from Amazon now that I know they sell it too. This is indeed made with salicylic acid, NOT benzoyl peroxide like their other facial cleansers by ProActive. They are TWO DIFFERENT products, this is NOT a fake product or a knock off like the other review said. I have been using this for years, and it is the ONLY product that keeps my face clean and blemish free. No other product does that for me, including the entire ProActive line that is different than this wash. I have been through 3 different Isotretinoin treatments for severe acne, numerous antibiotics, numerous facial cremes and washes given to me by my dermatologist, and nothing has worked except for the Isotretinoin and this wonderful wonderful wash by ProActive (by the way, salicylic acid in the 2% strength is COMMONLY used by dermatologists to help clear acne up - which this product thankfully has! You don't even have to go see a dermatologist like I originally did to get a product with that particular strength of salicylic acid). I'm 30 years old too, have had acne since I was 13. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this wonderful product to everyone who struggles with acne!

Murad Acne Spot Treatment: Does it Really Help?

April 8th, 2010 admin Posted in Acne Treatments, Adult Acne, Effective Prevention Techniques, Research and News, Treatment, cystic acne No Comments »

List Price: $18.00 USD

As you yourself may already know, there really is no one more desperate for help than someone in the midst of an acne breakout. You've done all that you could to prevent them and still, there they are.

So now we come to a common weapon of last resort. The acne spot treatment and Murad Acne Spot Treatment is just one of many that are out there. But can you really simply apply something like this and have it effect a pimple?

The simple answer to that is no! I'm sorry but your bodies healing process and immune system just don't work that way. To prove my point, just look at the main active ingredient in Murad Acne Spot Treatment. It's sulfur!

The same stuff that field medics were using to treat solders wounds back during the American civil war in the mid 1800s. The same stuff that common stick matches are made from.

The good news is that most acne spot treatments are cheap and also contain some type of flesh toned colorant to hide your pimple. So if you have the $15 or so to spare, go ahead and buy it, if it makes you feel any better.

However; as you're applying you acne spot treatment, do give some serious thought to treating your acne proactively. That is in a way that will prevent your outbreaks in the first place.

For instance there are some great multi-stage acne treatment kits available now that have been getting great reviews. Another topic that's creating a big buzz now, is common food allergies and their connection to acne.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Products: Examined Close Up

April 7th, 2010 admin Posted in Acne Prevention Tips, Acne Treament Gel, Body Acne, Effective Prevention Techniques, Research and News, Treatment, cystic acne No Comments »

One of the major things that sets this companies product line apart from so many others that you will find online, is that they all tend to be quite affordable.

In fact, with the exception of their $25 La Roche Posay Effaclar Active Matt Hydrating Emulsion, the magic number for the rest of their product appears to be $20. I like that.

Some of the other products in their line are La Roche Posay Effaclar K, their Deep Cleaning Foaming Cream, their Purifying Gel and what they call their Lotion Asrigente Micro-Exfoliante.

Now for $20 this last product mentioned comes in a hefty 200 ml container, which in this new age of “expensive tiny tubes” I find quite refreshing. It's exactly one fifth of a liter.

Now here is my one complaint about their product line. Their target market is people with acne prone skin, yet not one product in their line actually fights acne. Absolutely nothing that kills acne causing bacteria.

You see everything that they have, is basically a cleaner, a moisturizer or an exfoliant, with most of them being a combination of all of them. Now this is really no big deal I suppose, but for someone who doesn't understand basic chemistry, they can be led astray.

In the balance though, as long as you understand this and purchase an anti bacterial product somewhere else, at $20 per item, their line is relatively inexpensive to try.

Another thing worth noting is that when I researched their ingredient lists, I found that they have a some emollients (moisturizers) contained in them that are rather uncommon. This may be but one more reason to give them a try.

It's not that these emolliants are strange or obscure. It's just that you really don't see them commonly listed on competing product labels. Myristic acid is one and another is coc-glucoside and there are others.

I've tried a few of their products and really like how they make my skin feel. Nice and clean and moist

The Clarisonic Face Brush Gets a Big Thumbs Up!

April 7th, 2010 admin Posted in Acne Prevention Tips, Acne Questions and How-To's, Adult Acne, All Natural, Body Acne, Effective Prevention Techniques, Natural and Holistic, Pregnancy and Acne, Uncategorized, cystic acne No Comments »

List Price: $195.00 USD
New From: $175.00 In Stock
Release date February 2, 2009.

Let there be no doubt about it but that the Clarisonic Face Brush is a great product, even if it is a bit over priced. Think about it for a moment. You can now buy a good quality DVD player, which is a far more complex piece of electronics, for less than $100.

The irony is that the adds for this product seem to for the most target women removing makeup. Of course this would be a great market niche but for me, I see a lot more people using it.

What about restaurant workers for instance. It seems to me that anyone who works in this type of environment that can wreak havoc one ones complexion could make good use of a deep cleaner machine like this.

What many people don't realize is that standard hand scrubbing can actually force grime and bacteria down into skin pores. On the other hand, the ultra-sonic cleaning action of the Clarisonic Face Brush actually vibrates dirt and contaminants up and out.

So this would definitely be a great tool for the person with a skin condition who wears makeup. It would allow them to wear their makeup during the day and then completely remove it when they get home, before it has time to clog pores.

I can also see this tool being used to clean anything that's delicate, yet needs a thorough cleaning. Watches, jewelry, delicate electronics and machinery and the list just goes on and on in my mind.

You see the brushes don't spin like in a standard mechanical brush cleaner. Rather, they vibrate at a rate of 300 times per second, so you don't have the “abrasive effects” that you tend to get with a standard spinning scrubber.

The benefits of this product can be seen immediately. You will experience softer, smoother skin after the first use and your face will really look and feel squeaky clean. My pimples don't last as long (sometimes disappear in less than 24 hours which never happened before), and my expensive skin care products are more effective. The real reason for the purchase was a bunch of blackheads on my chin and they are diminishing in quantity. Also they are more brown now than black which I could see after using a Biore strip. Hopefully they will eventually disappear. I recommend this product.

This product is one of the best things I've ever bought for myself... It does exactly what it says: cleans your skin better than you ever thought you could, mildly exfoliates, and just makes your skin look fabulous. I can also tell it is softening my fine lines on my forehead (which are just starting). Once you use a clarisonic, you'll never go back to washing your face the regular way. I really like the Pro better than the one my friend bought awhile ago, b/c I changed it to a two minute timer b/c I have very oily skin, and I also like to be able to customize the speed (high after the gym, normal on a regular day). A FANTASTIC buy... a must for anyone who is looking for a boost to their facial skin. Plus, if you buy the spot attachment, you can use it on rough places like your upper chest, elbows, and knees (it has a special speed built in for body areas).

Get the Facts on Glycolic Acid Gel for Home Skin Treatment

April 6th, 2010 admin Posted in Acne Questions and How-To's, Acne Skin Care Tips, Acne Treament Gel, Body Acne, Effective Prevention Techniques, Natural and Holistic, Research and News, cystic acne No Comments »

In decades past, people in general really didn't pay much attention to what was contained in skin care products. They simply read what the maker promised and then hoped for the best.

However; in recent years shoppers have become far more savvy and aware. They are now reading the labels carefully and researching what each substance is and does.

As a result, many people and you may be one of them have come to the conclusion that they can simply buy the main active ingredients and do without all the fillers, stabilizers, high prices and hype.

So then what about glycolic acid gel? Time and again you may have seen it listed on ingredient labels and for good reason. It's a very effective exfoliator.

Be aware as you consider using it though, that it is a relatively strong acid. Don't be deluded by the fact that it's derived from sugar cane either because it can leave you scarred for life.

My advise, if you're thinking of experimenting with do it yourself exfoliators, is to look around at some of the various products that come in kit form.

Avon for instance, markets a two part exfoliating system for around $18 that includes an acid neutralizer to “stop the acid reaction” in and on your skin.

Really, it doesn't take a very powerful acid reaction to get the job done on your face and considering that glycolic acid gel is commonly used in heavy industry to strip metals of rust, I personally believe that it's just too dangerous to be used on ones face in a concentrated form.

I never had much luck with the hydroxy acids that were too harsh for my skin (I'm 23), but this glycolic peel was amazing! There was a tingling sensation, but it didn't hurt, and 5 minutes later I rinsed it off and felt immediate results. Even my husband noticed that my skin texture felt softer. The next morning I woke up, and my skin was glowing... the acne scars had started to dissolve away and I literally had new skin. The bottle says that I can use this twice a week, and with such great results from my first use, I will definitely continue.

Spotlight on AcneFree Severe Acne Treatment System

April 6th, 2010 admin Posted in Acne Scars, Adult Acne, Body Acne, Over-The-Counter, Treating Adult Acne, Treatment, cystic acne No Comments »

List Price: $29.99 USD
New From: $22.49 In Stock
Release date November 12, 2006.

This product, in my opinion, is unquestionably the best multi-stage treatment for severe acne currently on the market. However; before I go into the reasons why, I would like to elaborate on a few things.

The first thing I would like to make clear, is that if you suffer from sever acne, you should in no way be deluded into thinking that a simple kit will cure it.

There “is a root cause” for your acne and your true cure lies in determining and treating that root cause. For starters, I would suggest for instance exploring the concept that food allergies may be at the very least, a contributing factor.

Even so, this kit can be the final nail in your acne's coffin if you are truly serious about attacking it from more than one direction. This is because it's main active ingredient is benzoil peroxide. The strongest over the counter acne medicine you can buy.

Now the fourth stage is tube of cream that contains retinol. It's basically a night time treatment course for addressing the scarring caused by acne.

However; be aware of this. Retinol is not water soluble and any part that it plays in scar prevention is questionable. However; none the less, it is proven to be important for healthy skin.

The deal is though, that because it's not water soluble most of the studies that have involved retinol's effects on the skins healing process, have involved retinol that's ingested orally.

So all things considered, if you want to use retinol as part of your regimen, you would be much better off buying and using a retinol suppliment that's in pill form.

Ok back to the other three stages of this four stage kit. The first stage is a powerful cleanser that also contains benzoil peroxide. Be careful when you use it because benzoil peroxide is a powerful bleach.

Anything that it gets on will be left with a bleach stain. This includes towels, your clothing and even your hair if it dangles down in the way. So rinse well before moving on to the the second stage.

This would be the toner. Its function is to sooth the skin and counteract some of the negative effects of the benzoil peroxide. Make sure that you do a thorough job and don't worry of you run out.

This is because if you find yourself running short of toner, you can use witch-hazel in it's place. Use a cotton ball or a piece of cotton gauze to apply the toner. The toner also functions to close pores.

The third stage is a specially formulated lotion. It's blended specifically to be used by people with sever acne. Don't try to supplement it with a standard lotion or you could be in for serious trouble.

The lotion also contains a high concentration of benzoil peroxide, so be careful with it because it too will bleach your clothes and hair. Also make sure that you only apply a very thin layer.

Never use the retinol cream and the lotion together. They will simply counteract each other if you do and all you'll be left with is the negative side effects. The lotion is for the daytime and the retinol cream is a night-time treatment.

At $25 per kit, the Acnefree Severe Acne Treatment System is not one of the best deals in the acne treatment market. Rather it is the #1 “best deal”. It comes out to be roughly $6 per container.

Find a better deal than that and I'll eat your hat! Also consider finding and using a good chemical exfoliant in conjunction with this product. A moisturizer might help too, if you're experiencing dryness.

This has worked really well for me. I can't use it every day because it makes my skin a bit dry - but it's very effective at clearing up breakouts. I didn't have severe acne to begin with, but enough that I'd tried a couple different prescriptions from a dermatologist. This worked just as well, if not better.
Posted by: Bob A

AcneFree was reviewed in Allure magazine, with good results, so I thought I would try it. After two months, AcneFree didn't work and left my face extremely dry, unlike the magazine said.

Winning Back Acne Treatments: Proven Battle Tactics

January 23rd, 2010 admin Posted in Body Acne, Effective Prevention Techniques, Treating Adult Acne, cystic acne No Comments »

There are a few core reasons why truly effective back acne treatment strategies tend to be different from regular acne treatment methods. The first one is the obvious and that's that your back is not your face. Obviously with your face, issues like redness and drying can be causes for concern on a different level than they are on your back.

Also because the skin of the back is so much thicker back, acne in general tends to be more stubborn to treat. This is the very reason why so often an acne sufferer can experience results with a treatment on their face, yet come up empty handed when the same product is applied to their back, chest or butt.

Use stronger measures on thicker skin

A good chemical exfolaint can be the first step in a winning back acne treatment regimen. Always remember that the more powerful an exfoliant is, the less often you'll be able to use it. Consider a weaker or even a natural home made exfoliant that can be used every three days or so in the shower.

The skin on the back tends to have more oil glands per square inch then the skin on your face. Also once again back skin is much thicker as well. Both these factors mean that a topical treatment with a higher concentration of benzoil peroxide can be used and far more easily tolerated. Consider going with a full 10%.

Enhanced light and laser therapies do produce results. Thicker skin with more oil glands mean that back acne treatments of this type should always be a top consideration. These types of treatments work by zapping oil glands, which in turn lessens their ability to produce the excess oil that's causing the acne.

Getting Rid of Acne Can Be Simple: If You Know the Source of Your Problem

January 23rd, 2010 admin Posted in Acne Prevention Tips, Acne Treatments, Effective Prevention Techniques, Other, Research and News, cystic acne No Comments »

The fact of the matter, is that the medical establishment is loath to let the public in on just how little they often know. If they can't cure the common cold then they are also a heck of a long way off from curing acne: and they are. So getting rid of acne is a problem that each individual must face on their own because there are just too many causes and contributors.

Take the young man who just hit puberty and has a job after school hanging over a hot grill, flipping burgers. His face is exploding with pimples and do you know what the cure is? You guessed it! All he needs is to do find a new job and also make sure that he uses a good facial cleaners for the next handful of years.

That's a simple example that's used to point up the fact that expensive acne remedies are being over prescribed far too often. Of course they have their place but did you know that there are other far more permanent remedies for even severe case of acne that don't involve having to shell out piles of money on expensive topical treatments?

Laser and enhanced light therapies are an excellent example of this. Yes they are more expensive than just quitting flipping burgers but they do work on even stubborn cases of cystic acne. These assorted types of therapies use various types of powerful light sources to actually “zap & fry” troublesome oil glands deep within the skin.

Some common drugs can be a direct cause of acne as well and getting rid of acne in those cases can be a simple matter of stopping using them or searching for an alternative. For women, it can be birth control pills and shots and for men it can be steroids. If you've started using either of these types of drugs just prior to the onset of your acne condition, than chances are these pills are the culprit.

Dairy products have also found to be linked to acne in a good percentage of cases. No one knows why for sure, but it's suspected that powerful hormones that are injected into cattle to boost milk production may be the culprit. If yours is one of those cases, getting rid of acne may be as simple as eliminating milk and dairy products from your diet.

Natural Acne Remedies: Home Cures Show New Promise

January 23rd, 2010 admin Posted in Best Natural Acne Treatment, Effective Prevention Techniques, Research and News, cystic acne No Comments »

There are plenty of good reasons why more people than ever before are exploring natural acne remedies as a solution to their skin problems. For one thing, the prices on over the counter acne cures seem to just keep going up.

Also the data on recent clinical studies of natural home remedies has been coming in and much of it is positive. You see, it's important to remember that so much has yet to be learned about acne. What causes it and what can stop it.

The Big Buzz About Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has been creating a big buzz ever since clinical tests showed that it's almost as effective as benzoil peroxide. The problem with this natural cure though is that in spite of it's organic origins, it can cause irritation on various levels.

Before using tea tree oil, its important to read up on it as much as possible. Find out the various ways to dilute it and see which one works best for you. Also talking to or reading material written by people who have already used it could only help.

Straight From the Grocery Isle

If you read the ingredient labels on any of the mild, non abrasive exfoliants that have become so popular recently, what you will find is that the mild acids that power them are readily available in most homes and grocery stores. Lactic acid is one that's commonly used to dissolve away dead skin cells and coagulated oil and it's derived from sour milk.

Start scouting around online for recipes and instructions for effective home made skin exfoliant acne remedies and it won't be long until you have a whole list of them. Simple lime or lemon juice is another. Powerful citric acid in both of them is but one more common ingredient in some of the newer exfoliants.

Light is a Safe & Natural Acne Remedy

Enhanced light or laser therapies may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of natural acne remedies. However; particularly on more extreme cases, including cystic acne, these types of treatments bring relief by “zapping” oil glands and thereby forcing them to reduce output. Also the last time I checked, light is natural.
