Tea Tree Oil

One of the newer natural acne treatments that's catching air recently on the Internet is tea tree oil. No doubt about it but that there are a lot of reviews on it out there. Some good and some bad. So then, just what is the straight word on tea tree oil as an acne treatment? Well, fortunatly in this particular case there has been clinical blind test studies done, so the answers are out there.

It's the terpin in tea tree oil thats been officially credited with its anti-fungal, anti-microbial properties and yes it does work on acne. As a matter of fact, in those blind test studies tea tree oil was found to be almost as effective as benziol peroxide, which was what the tea tree oil was compared against. However; do be aware that tea tree oil does have some negative side effects.

Don't kid yourself. It's pretty strong stuff and this is why it's almost always used in a 5% solution, being diluted with water. Even then, don't be at all surprised if even in this diluted form it still causes a rash. Simply cut back on the amount you use and consider even cutting back to using it every other day in conjunction with a more conventional acne treatment regimen.

Also be aware that tea tree oil is not the only natural course of treatment for acne because it's not. Another thing to consider before dousing yourself with tea tree oil, is that it's readily available in products like soaps and lotions. In the end though, do keep in mind that tea tree oil has never been known to produce dramatic results as an acne treatment product.
